The Kenya International Theatre Festival: Director

I assumed leadership with the advantage of having a deep understanding of the program. From the very beginning, when my sole responsibility was to provide creative support as a partner, I was convinced the festival needed to be successful. As a supporter of artists, the wealth of artistic exchange Kenya would enjoy with the rest of the world, was the promise that captured my passion.

Objective

As director of KITFest from 2021 - 2023, my personal objective was to lay sustainable foundations across all functions within the intersection of relationships, people, technology, data, brand and communications.

Outcome

A respected and valued program, that is continuously contributing to the development of Kenya theatre and performing arts.
Not too long into my partnership with the KITFest, I began to naturally get drawn towards strategic contribution and additional support beyond my scope. Honestly, the blank canvas proved to be an exciting creative challenge for me. I couldn't move on from the fact that I had an opportunity to curate brand experiences for such a great initiative, which had the potential to impactfully interact with different communities within the creative economy. I dedicated myself to provide leadership in strategic brand and community management, a challenge I was too eager to face. While the festival was sustained by different arms in other organisational needs, the public facing brand image and industry buy-in largely contributed to the growth of KITFest communities. This success naturally inspired the festival to welcome me to lead when new leadership was needed. After giving the program great attention and support over the years, it was a great challenge to inspire more of what I envisioned when I first saw the potential wealth of artistic exchange. I knew my work was to lay sustainable foundations across all functions within the intersection of relationships, people, technology, data, brand and communications. This concoction became a ripening agent for the festival’s dominance and growth, placing it in a great position to inspire sustainable partnerships and experience the next level of growth. With this accomplishment, I made a decision to step down and let new energy and fresh ideas progress the festival forward.
